Magic Mike is the stage name of a man working towards a dream. He hopes to one day own his own business creating custom furniture. Until that day comes, he’s doing odd jobs during the day and stripping at night while dealing with all that life throws at him.
Review:
Magic Mike is for Channing Tatum the way 8 Mile was for Eminem — fictional portrayals of events in their pasts. Tatum was a stripper at one time. His moves in this movie made good use of those talents. The man is a very talented dancer as well as a good actor.
I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. It’s a slice of life look at three months of a stripper’s life and all the mayhem he endures while trying to live life. As a friend said, this movie has wonderful eye candy but it also has a plot and decent character development.
I’m definitely getting the DVD just for the extras, because I know there have to be extended dance scenes. There just has to be. *eg*
While Tatum was a magnificent dancer, Joe Manganiello was pretty stiff (no pun intended). Not the stiffest — that’s reserved for Tarzan — but still not that great. Matthew McConaughey was wonderful in his role and even got to bring along his bongos. And Alex Pettyfer is showing great range because I totally forgot he was the kid from I am Number Four while watching this movie.
The ladies will enjoy the revue and possibly the plot. I enjoyed both and look forward to watching the DVD over and over and over and over again.
