Basic Premise:
John Carter is a disenfranchised Civil War vet who just wants to find his fortune and build himself a new future. His hunt leads him to bridge that transports him to Mars where he is a highly ought after oddity to help win a war that is sure to devastate the whole planet if he doesn’t help.
Review:
I enjoyed this movie. I’ve never read the books, so I cannot compare how well the movie stuck to the source material. I can say that I was entertained and sucked into the plot and the characters. Sure it’s Tarzan in space, but I didn’t hold that against it.
As a world builder, the dynamics of the different cultures crafted in this movie appealed to me. I only wish there had been more time to go into certain things that I felt needed a more in-depth explanation.
I hope to see a sequel for this movie.
How was the acting? sometimes adventure movies seem to rely more on special effects than good acting – the people speak in a monotone, or a whisper…it's frustrating. I miss when actors used to sound like real people. 🙂
The acting was great. I loved John Carter (Taylor Kitsch). He is hilarious and fierce and loud. No whispering from this man.
This is the type of movie you can watch with mute on and still know what's happening.
